Christmas lunch at prisons will not be lavish
Christmas lunch for prisoners at the Otago Corrections Facility at Milburn - and all other New Zealand prisons - will not be lavish.
The Corrections Department says the fare for the 8500 people languishing in prison this Christmas will be a serving of roast chicken, roast potatoes, carrots and peas.
Dessert will be apple pie and custard.
For dinner, prisoners will have the sandwiches they would normally have for lunch.
The department says the meal will cost about $4 per prisoner.
Recreation, such as sport and music, will be available for some, depending on security classifications and behaviour.
