Council undertaking a new push to protect important city trees

The DCC is undertaking a new push to identify and protect important city trees.

The push is part of the council's work on its second generation District Plan.

As part of that, the local authority is reviewing its significant tree schedule.

The schedule has more than 1200 trees and more than 100 groups of trees identified as worthy of protection.

Residents are being asked to consider what trees they think are important, and nominate them for addition to the schedule.

Trees deemed worthy of inclusion are noted in the district plan, giving them a level of protection.
