Drop in export value used against the Government

Labour has used new figures showing a drop in the value of exports to attack the Government.

Statistics New Zealand figures show exports for May were down by $202 million compared to the same period last year, with meat and edible offal recording the biggest decrease.

Imports were up 1.1%, or $46 million.

Labour’s Economic Development spokesman David Cunliffe says the Government should stop relying on commodities with notorious price cycles to prop up the economy.
