Electricity consumers may benefit from competition
Dunedin consumers may be set to benefit from increased competition as Genesis Energy opens bidding for a South Island customer base.
The move follows the announcement of electricity reforms which, for the first time, will give access to generation capacity in the South Island.
The reforms mean Genesis will gain Tekapo A and B power stations.
Otago Chamber of Commerce CEO John Christie says the new competition can only be good for Dunedin consumers as companies compete to gain a market share.
