Fever pitch rises over the Hobbit

New Zealand is caught up in a fever of excitement over the movie premiere of 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey'.

And while Peter Jackson's cinematic versions of J.R.R. Tolkien's books have reached world-wide acclaim, it's important to remember the books were massively popular, decades ago.

But what makes The Hobbit such an endearing story? And is the film version ever as good as the book?
