Incident a reminder to sort out fines

A former Dunedin man, returning for a visit from Brisbane, found his holiday bill blown out by almost $1000 because of unpaid fines.

The 34 year old landed at Dunedin airport yesterday, but only got as far as customs before being taken into custody.

He was able to go on his way, but only after paying $950 worth of unpaid fines.

Police say the incident is a reminder fines need to be sorted out before people travel.
