Man confesses to theft before report filed

A Dunedin man had an almost instant attack of guilt this morning, alerting police to his crimes before they had even been discovered.

Police say the 43 year old man turned up at the Dunedin central station not long after 9 am to confess to theft.

He had taken items of clothing from a central Dunedin retailer.

The theft had evidently occurred shortly after opening time.

Police had to phone the retail outlet to confirm the incident had occurred, as the theft had yet to be reported.

Officers discovered the man was indeed telling the truth, and took him in for questioning after what was described as "an attack of the guilts".
