An Invercargill mum has been rewarded for making the choice to breastfeed.

Roxanne Thornicroft has won the Otago and Southland section of a Ministry of Health breastfeeding photo competition.

Organiser Rosie Gordon says the competition aimed to support and celebrate breastfeeding and, in particular, breastfeeding in public.

Gordon says that breastfeeding benefits both babies and mothers, by giving better nutrition and immunity, and helps babies develop better emotionally.
