The Otago District Health Board voted unanimously yesterday in favour of merging to create a single DHB across the Otago Southland region.

The Southland DHB board will consider the recommendation and vote at their meeting next week.

During its meeting this week, the Otago Board modified the initial management recommendations slightly to address concerns raised by some Southland Senior Medical Officers.

One key condition for both DHBs is making sure the patient is put first.

Should the conditions be met, and the boards merge, there will be four board members from Otago, and three from Southland.
