Otago Kidney Society give kidney health checks in Wall Street Mall

Today is World Kidney Day, which is part of a global campaign focusing on reducing kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.

In Dunedin the Otago Kidney Society had a presence in Wall Street Mall.

To play its part in raising awareness about the importance of Kidney Health, the Otago Kidney Society ran a free kidney health check station staffed by health professionals from the kidney department at Dunedin Hospital.

Kidney disease is described as a silent killer and thousands of Kiwis are at high risk of developing kidney disease and don't know it.

Blood pressure is an important indicator of kidney health, so part of the screening involved a blood pressure reading.

Anybody with high blood pressure was advised to talk to their GP, who can refer patients to Dunedin Public Hospital's Nephrology Department.
