Otago Norml throw party

Otago norml, a Cannabis smoking civil disobedience protest group, celebrated five years of openly breaking the law by throwing a party today.

The club meets twice weekly under the same tree to publicly smoke cannabis as an act of protest against what they believe are unjust prohibition laws.

Group spokesperson Jacob Myhre says the group will not stop protesting until the law is overturned.

Preparations for this afternoon's party were well underway around midday, and organisers hope people can come together and celebrate, including visitors from out of town.

Myhre maintains Otago students have long been known for their irreverence and being at the forefront of social conscience issues.
