Parliament votes against shops opening on Easter Sunday

Last night Parliament voted against a bill to open shops on Easter Sunday.

The bill lost by 49 votes to 70.

First Union Retail Secretary, Maxine Gay, says the vote ensures retail workers can spend more time with their families.

She says New Zealand doesn't need Easter Trading, and now retail staff can rest assured that their Easter holiday is safe.
