Person drowns in Papanui Inlet

A person has drowned in the Papanui Inlet on the Otago peninsula this afternoon.

Details were scarce as 9 Local News went to air, but police say the drowning occurred after a boating mishap.

They say two people were in a boat on the inlet, near Portobello, when the incident occurred.

Police were informed just before 3 pm.

No further details were available.
