Retailers warned against misleading advertising

The Commerce Commission is warning retailers against misleading advertising as the Yuletide shopping season approaches.

And with on-line shopping increasing, that warning is extended to on-line retailers.

The commission is taking particular note of rules under the Fair Trading Act, which prohibit false and misleading information being provided to consumers.

New Zealand shoppers are also keeping an eye on the issue - the commission receives more than 10,000 complaints a year, with 70% about possible breaches of the Act.
