Tradition of Christmas charity being turned on its head
The tradition of Christmas charity is being turned on its head by professional thieves, who are taking instead of giving.
Four arrests for theft in the last 24 hours have prompted police to warn of an upsurge as Christmas approaches.
Police say the upsurge is itself a Christmas tradition, as professional shoplifters make the most of the increased market for goods.
Dunedin retailers have been warned to be aware of the risk, and take the appropriate action.
