University of Otago’s Centre for International Health joins tuberculosis study

The University of Otago’s Centre for International Health has announced it's joining a major global trial studying the effectiveness of a new treatment for latent tuberculosis.

Centre researchers and their collaborators at the University of Padjadjaran have also gained around $540,000 in funding to run an arm of the clinical trial in Bandung, Indonesia.

Centre Director, Professor Philip Hill, says the World Health Organization estimates that approximately one-third of the world’s entire population are carriers of the latent form of tuberculosis, and says that the study has the potential to eradicate the disease.
