Dunedin International Airport Ltd has reported an almost 4% increase in the number of international passengers using the facility.
The company has released more details from the first six months of the 2012/2013 year.

Researcher calls for law restricting smoking in cars

A University of Otago researcher has called for a law restricting smoking in cars.
Associate Professor Nick Wilson has made the call after publishing research showing New Zealanders smoke in cars three times more than their Sydney counterparts.
Of nearly 5000 vehicles observed in Sydney, only 1% had smokers, compared to almost 3% in New Zealand. ›read more
Commodity prices rise for seventh consecutive month

New Zealand commodity prices rose 0.2% in February, increasing for the seventh month in a row.
The rise was led by the price of butter, which went up 4%, followed by a 3% gain in wood pulp prices and a 2% increase in milk powder and lamb prices.
Seafood, aluminium and pelt prices rose 1%, and wool and beef prices both fell by 2%. ›read more

But the February date of the Chinese holiday cut into national tourism numbers for January.
Chinese visitor arrivals in January stood at about 260,000.

Process plant in the Philippines continues to track well

The company that owns the Macraes gold mine near Palmerston says work on its process plant in the Philippines continues to track well.
OceanaGold's Didipio Mine has delivered about 2,500 tonnes of copper-gold concentrate.

Otago has bounced back from disappointing tourism figures late last year.
New figures show guest nights in the South Island rose 7.2% in December compared with November.
Otago had the largest increase of any province in the South Island.
