Dunedin police are continuing to crack down on criminals stealing from cars, using dogs early this morning to catch two men. Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken says a 46 year old man and his 47 year old accomplice were seen trying to open car doors in Melbourne Street. Using dogs, police tracked the pair to a Cutten Street address, and arrested both. ›read more

A 66 year old Dunedin man died in a car crash in Lawrence early today. Shortly after 5 am, police were called to the crash on State Highway 8, east of Lawrence. Officers found a courier van had collided with a power pole, and Gavin George Anderson, the sole occupant of the van, had died. Power to Lawrence was cut till early afternoon. ›read more
