More than 15 people have lost their jobs at the University of Otago's College of Education.

They are the latest people to be made redundant since the college merged with the university in 2007.

Money is at the heart of the problem - with the university having to subsidise the college.

Without these latest redundancies, the university's subsidy would have been more than a million dollars this year alone.

In the last eight years student numbers at the college have decreased by almost a third, and several courses have been scrapped.

The latest redundancies include part-time workers, and equate to the loss of 15.4 full-time jobs.
