Knitters working on poppies for this year's ANZAC Day commemorations have reached their goal of 2000 individual flowers.

Knitters started the project at the beginning of the year, often working in the Toitu Otago Settlers Museum.

The project is being organised by the Otago Settlers Association, in partnership with the museum.

The 2000 hand-knitted poppies will be displayed within the museum's World War One exhibition.

It honours the local soldiers who fought and died in the war.

Although the target's been reached, knitted poppies will continue to be collected at the museum until the 14th of March.

They'll be displayed until the end of World War One centenary commemorations.
