Dunedin residents have walked their way into the history books, participating in the country's largest Relay for Life fundraising event.

Thousands of locals collectively raised more than $200,000 for the Cancer Society during the 24 hour relay.

And the money's expected to make a significant difference in the lives of many cancer sufferers.
