The parents of a disabled girl are desperate to get back their stolen car, which they rely on to transport their daughter.

The girl's mother made a plea on social media for information or sightings of the car - a maroon and silver Subaru grand wagon.

She alleges it was stolen from South Road late Saturday night or early Sunday morning.

The mother says her daughter is unable to use public transport because of her disability, and the family relies on the vehicle.

She says the car is insured, but she's worried it could take weeks before a replacement is sorted out.

Her social media plea has prompted at least one person to offer the use of their vehicle in the short term.
