Almost half a million dollars in funding is available for local events, through the Dunedin City Council.

The council's calling for applications in relation to its contestable events fund.

There's $465,000 in the fund to allocate in this round.

Applications close on the 15th of May.

Funding will be allocated through the council's annual plan process, with final approval expected at the end of June.

The money's intended to be used for premier and major events in Dunedin.
