The Otago Community Hospice is set to receive almost $2m in extra funding from the government.

The money's being allocated over the next four years.

The government's promised $880,000 a year in extra funding.

That amount has to be shared between the local hospice and the hospice in Southland.

The funding takes effect from the 1st of July.

It's part of a government package for hospices around the country, totalling $52m.
