Dunedin's in the midst of a crime wave, with police investigating more than a dozen thefts and burglaries from the last few days.

The incidents are all centred around South Dunedin and Musselburgh, near Queens' High School.

Twelve vehicles parked in the area have been broken into since Wednesday night.

And three properties have also been burgled in that time.

Police say stolen items include a child's scooter as well as laptop computers.

And the ignitions of some vehicles broken into have been tampered with.
