Basketball Otago is back in local hands.

The organisation's been under Basketball New Zealand's control for the past few months.

That's because of ongoing financial issues amounting to more than $180,000 of debt.

But locals are now back in charge, with only a bit of paperwork standing between them and full control.

Basketball Otago's board chairman says the group's final payments to creditors are being processed, and all debt should be taken care of within the next couple of days.
