Police are warning residents to clear frost from car windscreens, or risk being fined.

Officers can issue fines of $150 to people driving with partially covered windscreens.

Sergeant Steve Aitken says it's dangerous and illegal to drive with obscured vision.

He says frosty conditions are no excuse, and residents should make time to clear windscreens properly.

Police are giving out free windscreen scrapers to local motorists in an effort to prevent crashes caused by vision obstruction.
