The public won't get to drive on it for at least another few days but nevertheless the State Highway 88 realignment was officially opened this morning.

The new stretch was primarily necessary in order to divert traffic around Forsyth Barr Stadium, but benefits are also expected in Dunedin's freight and cycling sectors.
