Two fires lit in Dunedin overnight are currently under investigation by Police and are being treated as suspicious.

The fires occurred behind shops on the Edinburgh Way between 11 last night and the early hours of this morning.

An area behind the shops has been cordoned off, however Police are reluctant to give full details of exactly where the fires occurred.

Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area overnight to make contact.

There have been no reports of serious damage from the fires.
