Unconscious student found near the Dunedin wharves

A young female student found early this morning drunk, unconscious and hypothermic near the Dunedin wharves has left police deeply concerned.

Police say the officers who picked her up at about 12.30am made the right call by taking her directly to hospital.

But they say the incident could easily have turned out differently - and a detox unit would help.
