First Olympic medal for New Zealand

New Zealand bagged its first medal of the Olympics overnight, when our equestrian team romped home in third place.

More medals should follow this week, including a probable gold for former local boy Hamish Bond.

Bond rows in the finals of the men’s pairs with team mate Eric Murray on Friday night New Zealand time.

The twosome broke a world record in their heat, making them the hot favourites to take the top spot on the podium.

Last night’s first Kiwi medal was equestrian Mark Todd’s fifth, although his young horse couldn’t quite carry him through to a matching individual medal.
