Team rebuilt not bought
It may have been a year to forget for Otago rugby after the ORFU's financial woes, but the team has been rebuilt thanks to the generosity of the Otago community.
Coach Tony Brown says even with financial restraints he was there to build a team rather than buy one, and that's what they've done.
In their first round match of the ITM Cup on Saturday, Otago had a convincing 46 to 34 win against Northland.
Their next game is against Bay of Plenty, and will see crowd favourite Ben Smith return to the field after playing for the All Blacks last weekend.
