Smell of cooked chicken evidence of break-in

A victim of crime in Dunedin found his home had been broken into when he arrived home from work yesterday.

The evidence was a strong smell of cooked chicken.

Police say an offender broke into the Northeast Valley home, took a chicken from the fridge, cooked it and ate on the premises while the owner was at work.

And police will also investigate what they say is a molotov cocktail attack on a Wakari flat last night.

The attack follows a fire drill yesterday at the home, which is used to house people with intellectual disabilities, or those recovering from mental illness.

Police are looking for a young male seen hanging around the house when the fire drill was underway.
