Dunedin South Labour MP disagrees with a Commerce Commission decision

Dunedin South Labour MP Clare Curran says consumers will be the big losers, following a Commerce Commission decision.

The commission allowed Vodafone's $840m takeover of TelstraClear this morning.

It ruled the merged entity would continue to face competition from Telecom, as well as Orcon, Slingshot and other smaller businesses.

But Curran says the ruling results in a situation of just two major players in the market.

It leaves consumers with fewer options, and makes them more vulnerable to anti-competitive behaviour.
