Southern health workers are getting involved in a national campaign to help reduce falls among the elderly.

The Southern District Health Board is taking part in government organisation, the Health Quality & Safety Commission's, month-long April Falls promotion.

The plan is to prevent falls and reduce harm from falls in aged residential care.

That will involve risk assessment, care planning and developing a safe environment for residents.

The health board says falling is one of the most serious problems associated with ageing.
