Police plan to again target speed and alcohol on New Zealand roads on an Easter weekend where bad weather is expected to play a part.

Since 1956 more than 560 people have been killed and 14,600 injured in Easter road crashes.

The only year that nobody died was 2012.

A reduced speed threshold campaign where tickets are given to anyone travelling at more than 4kph over the speed limit returns for 11 days from tomorrow.

As well, police will be out in force targeting speed, distraction, alcohol and other unsafe driving behaviours.
