Just under 100 of the country's finest board riders took to the Dunedin waves during the long weekend.

Bad weather on Friday meant the South Island surfing championships started a day later on Saturday, with conditions improving for the next three days.

And despite some big names making an appearance, it was some first time winners that stole the show.
