Dunedin's Chinese Garden has had its fair share of controversy, with ratepayers forking out while the attraction struggles to pay its way.

But the development has been praised by the Chinese Consul-General, as a fitting monument to the strength of Dunedin's Chinese community.

And she's adamant that Dunedin's relationship with China will continue to flourish.
