The national median house price fell by just over $11,000 in July.

But prices across Otago bucked the trend, rising up to $9,000.

Figures released by the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand report the market is firmly in winter mode, with listings low and activity muted.

It says rising interest rates and the forthcoming election are most likely influencing buyer behaviour.
