More research is being conducted by the Productivity Commission in respect of affordable housing.

The commission will expand on its 2012 report, which included recommendations for the government.

Now it will investigate land supply and development capacity, particularly in areas with strong population growth.

The commission will look at ways local authorities can free up more land for housing.

And it will also investigate the development of associated infrastructure.

The findings are expected to be released in due course.
