It's a rare treat for Dunedin scientists to get their hands on a perfectly intact spectacled porpoise.

They're usually found in deep water thousands of kilometres from New Zealand.

But the recent discovery of an adult male on a Dunedin beach means exciting things ahead for local researchers.
