At least ten redundancies are likely at the University of Otago, following the scrapping of two programmes.

The university is doing away with its one-year graduate diploma and four-year bachelor's degree in education studies.

That means more than ten College of Education staff are likely to lose their jobs.

The programmes will be dropped from the start of next year.

A meeting will be held on Monday between the university and the Tertiary Education Union.

The university has refused to confirm speculation about job losses.

Enrolments in the education programmes have been declining.
