About 37% of Otago residents spend more money shopping online than they do in stores.

And 60% are spending more online than they did last year.

The statistics come from the latest national survey about online shopping trends.

60% of Otago respondents say they know buying from offshore companies isn't good for the local economy, but they can't resist the selection and bargains available online.

Clothing is the most frequently purchased product, followed by electronics.

67% shop online once a month or less, and just 2% shop daily.
