The Otago Regional Council will this week consider handing over the city's bus network to the Dunedin City Council.

A report to a meeting of the ORC says staff meetings have been held in the last six months to study the issue, after the DCC expressed interest in the idea.

The ORC collects rates to help pay for the service, and plans to spend more than ten million dollars on transport related projects in the next year.

A Wednesday meeting will consider whether to retain or offload the network.

If the latter course is approved, staff recommend an approach to the DCC.
