The consumers price index continues to rise, with a 0.3% increase in the June quarter.

The index measures the rate of price change for goods and services purchased by New Zealand households.

There were also small increases in the March and December quarters.

Higher prices for vegetables and housing-related items were countered slightly by cheaper holiday deals, cars and fruit.

Utility prices rose 1.2%, reflecting higher prices for electricity, rent, and newly built houses.

Package holiday prices were down 6.5% and accommodation was also seasonally cheaper.

Overall the index has risen 1.6% in the last year.
