Dunedin research has found that school children can combine study with part-time work, and not suffer any long-term disadvantages.
The study was conducted by University of Otago researchers.
They analysed data from the long-running Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study.
And they found that the paid employment of school children was not associated with any long-term effects of their wellbeing or education.
The research also ruled out suggestions that school children who worked part-time were more likely to use drugs.
The long-running Dunedin study has followed the progress of 1000 people born in the early 70s.
