The Dunedin City Council is seeking public feedback on a road marking trial, in which cycle symbols have been painted on several streets.

The council has launched an online survey about the trial, through its Dunedin People's Panel.

Council staff want to know what residents think of the road markings - called sharrows - and whether they are effective.

The sharrows indicate shared lanes for cyclists and motorists.

They have been painted on George Street and King Edward Street, in an effort to improve road user safety.

After the trial, the New Zealand Transport Agency will decide whether to make such road markings permanent.

The council's online survey closes at the end of the week, but the road markings will be in place until November.
