The number of new dwellings being consented continues to rise throughout the country, and is at its highest level since 2007.

The trend has more than doubled in the last few years.

Last month the seasonally adjusted number of consented new dwellings rose 0.1%.

There were more than 2000 overall, including 373 apartments.

Activity continues to be centred in Auckland and Christchurch, with almost $1.4b of building work consented overall in July.
