Almost 200 Dunedin residents have marched through the city's streets to raise awareness of rape culture.

It's a local problem, according to Rape Crisis Dunedin staff who held their annual public awareness-raising event on Saturday.

And the Freely and Willingly march proved timely, given recent controversy in the city.
