Volunteer firefighters from throughout the region are being put through their paces this week, learning the ropes for a whole range of scenarios.

They're training at the Dunedin Central Fire Station, where they've spent five days practising various drills.

And although volunteer numbers are high across the country, the Fire Service continues to encounter certain problems.
